The North Mason School District will begin the 2020-21 school year with 100% distance learning at STAGE 2 of our Learning Model. While Mason County is currently in Phase 3 of the Governor’s Phased Approach to reopening the state, the number of congregants in Phase 3 has now been reduced, removing the possibility of reopening schools for in-person learning this fall. It has become clear at this time that our distance learning model (STAGE 2) is the safest way to begin the school year for students and staff.

Get to Know Each of the 6 STAGES
The 6 Stages in our Learning Model allow us to pivot at any time between distance, hybrid and in-person learning, as determined by the impacts of the changing COVID-19 status, our available resources, and direction from OSPI, our Governor and our local Health Department(s).
As the local COVID-19 status continues to evolve over the next several months, we will regularly revisit our North Mason Learning Model. It may be that we have to move back and forth from stage to stage throughout the school year. And, if new data and guidelines become available prior to the start of school, this page will be updated. Please continue to check back for the most current status of our North Mason Learning Model.
STAGE 1: 100% Distance Learning
All students and staff participate in distance learning.
School buildings closed, limited access for staff.
STAGE 2: 100% Distance Learning
All students participate in distance learning. Staff
will be working from school, for planning and to
deliver on-line instruction.
STAGE 3: Hybrid Learning
A combination of in-person attendance and on-line
learning for students with greatest need for additional
support as identified through an agreed-upon set of
criteria. These students will attend school 2 days
per week with teachers in the classroom. All other
students participate in Distance Learning.
Families may choose to stay in STAGE 2, 100%
distance learning.
STAGE 4: Hybrid Learning
All students from STAGE 3, as well as our youngest
learners and additional students in need of support
participate at school with a combination of in-person
attendance 2 days per week. All other students
participate in Distance Learning. Staff able to be onsite
for planning and delivering instruction.
Families may choose to stay in STAGE 2, 100%
distance learning.
STAGE 5: Hybrid Learning
All students participate onsite with in-person
instruction 2 days per week. Staff able to be onsite
for the purpose of planning and delivering instruction.
Families may choose to stay in STAGE 2, 100%
distance learning.
STAGE 6: 100% Return to School
All students and staff participate onsite with in-person
instruction five (5) days per week.
Families may choose to stay in STAGE 2, 100%
distance learning.
OUR PRIORITIES
• The health and safety of our students and staff, as well as the families at home is our top priority.
• We will implement a common, system-wide on-line learning management system that is:
◊ User-friendly for students, staff and families among all subjects
◊ Has language translation to family’s preferred language when available
◊ Supports synchronous and asynchronous learning
◊ Supports both hybrid and in-person learning
◊ Useful beyond the 2020-21 school year
• We will build a sense of belonging and connectedness within our classrooms, schools and community.
• As we nurture the learning of our students at home, or, when safe to do so, through hybrid stages
or in-person, we will build relationships – through community partnerships and collaboration
honoring our commitment to the Whole Child, Whole School and Whole Community.
• We are committed to creating school environments that are safe, caring and respectful.
