Hello Hawkins Families!

My name is Mary Katherine Plas and I teach sixth grade Humanities. This year I teach English Language Arts (ELA) and Ancient World History. Additionally, I am excited to be teaching one of our new electives this year. - Introduction to Drama.

Before becoming a teacher, I practiced law for 20 years with a focus on family law and working as an advocate for diverse families and children with disabilities. I knew I wanted to work with kids as my "retirement career" and truly love working with middle schoolers. This is a time of such change and growth in their lives. When I think back to the teachers in my life who most influenced me, it is those I met in "junior high."

I hope that I can have a positive impact on your child as well. Please let me know if there is anything you or your student need from me to make their learning experience more valuable.
