Special Services


A variety of Special Education Support Services are available to students who are found eligible. Eligibility is based upon Washington State guidelines. Students who meet the eligibility criteria based upon evaluation and who have a need for support services will be placed in Special Education. The support services available to students vary, depending upon individual needs. An Individualized Educational Program (IEP) is required for all participating students. The special education support services assist students through a variety of programs:

IEP ENGLISH 1-4

Student will understand and practice the writing process while writing to a variety of purposes (i.e. letters, applications, short essays, fiction and poetry). Students will participate in editing and evaluating their own and each other's work. Course stresses basic skills, such as spelling and grammar. The reading component will include silent sustained reading (SSR) and group reading from a variety of texts. The student will set personal reading goals and evaluate their progress.

IEP MATH 1-3

This course covers addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, ranging from the basic concepts of whole numbers to the understanding of fractions and measurements.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM

All developmental classes are designed for high school students with moderate to severe cognitive and/or physical disabilities. Students are integrated into general education classes when appropriate. The instructional goals and methods support general educational essential goals, with modifications. Instruction is designed to encourage independence, prevocational skills, job related projects and work study opportunities.

SOCIAL STUDIES
INTEGRATED ENGLISH/CIVICS

PREREQUISITE: By application and instructor approval
FULFILLS: 2 credits-One Social Studies
graduation requirement and one English graduation requirement.
GRADE LEVEL: 9

The integrated English/History class runs for an entire school year, one period a day, and earn two credits. Two teachers will lead the class and will focus on improving reading comprehension, reading fluency, and writing proficiency.
