ART I

This is a "foundation" course that exposes students to basic drawing/ design concepts and some art history and appreciation. Students will learn methods and procedures used in a variety of media including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastel and painting.
ART II
PREREQUISITE: Art I with a C grade or better

This class is for the student who has a fundamental understanding of basic drawing/design principles and wants to further improve and develop those skills. The primary emphasis will be to develop technical skills and encourage problem solving. We will also emphasize and encourage students to produce portfolios of their art work. This course will concentrate on some of the following techniques: drawing/painting, sculpture, and mixed media.
ART III-V

This is an advanced study in specialized areas for the serious art student. The course is designed for the accomplished art students who have proven their ability to work with a professional attitude to do their best. Students will work both on group projects, and independently in areas of individual interest. Portfolio building will be encouraged for students interested in attending art college.
CERAMICS I

Ceramics I is an introduction to the various construction techniques of clay with emphasis on the fundamentals of hand-building using coil, slab and pinch techniques. Introduction to the potter's wheel and basic sculpture will also be included. Techniques in decorating and glazing will be explored. Many techniques and products will be related to historic periods, as well as various cultural settings.
CERAMICS II

Students will explore their artistic creativity and enhance skills in both hand-building and work on the potter's wheel. This course provides students with an opportunity to develop more specific directions within ceramic production. Glaze chemistry, decorating techniques, properties of clay and the firing of kilns will be studied.
CERAMICS III and IV

Ceramics III and IV provides students with advanced individual work in ceramics with emphasis on perfecting techniques. Study of ceramic history and a variety of processes will be emphasized. At least 2 hours a week outside of class will be spent working on ceramic assignments.
CONCERT BAND (A two-term commitment)

Instruction will emphasize performance in the various genres of instrumental band music including concert, jazz, pop, and marching music. The student will be required to participate in several performances throughout the year, most are not during the normal school day. Students will sign-up for an entire year of band. Exceptions will be made only with teacher approval.
CONCERT CHOIR (A two term commitment)

Students will be instructed in basic vocal and ensemble techniques with the goal of putting on educationally entertaining performances/concerts. Students are required to participate in all performances and most are not during the normal school day. Students will sign up for an entire year of choir. Exceptions will be made only with teacher approval.
JAZZ BAND
(A two-term commitment)
PREREQUISITE: Previous instrumental experience or instructor permission AND an audition.

GRADE LEVELS: 9-12
Instruction will emphasize performance in the various styles of instrumental jazz music inslucing big-band, swing, samba, blues, Latin, be-bop, and soloing through improvisation.
DRAMA 1
PREREQUISITE: None
GRADE LEVELS: 10-12

Learn the fundamental techniques of: pantomime, improvisation, movement, imagination, character development, analysis, and have a lot of fun while you're working hard and shooting for the stars! Talents will be spotlighted in a grand finale performance!
GUITAR PREREQUISITE; None

GRADE LEVELS: 9-12
Students will be instructed on rhythm guitar (exceptions can be made only with instructor approval). Instruction will include both chord and note reading, rhythm reading, and music theory. Some school owned guitars are available and will be issued on a first come, first served basis. All other student must supply their own ACOUSTIC guitar (unless prior approval has been given). Students who already play guitar are encouraged to take this class but will follow an accelerated pace of instruction which is designed to meet their learning goals.

Do you wish there was an alternative to the regular P.E. Class? Well now there is! Stretch out those muscles and tickle those toes in a course designed for anyone who is interested in dance and having fun. Learn the fancy footwork of dance technique - everything from ballet (the foundation of all dance) to country, western swing, modern jazz and maybe even disco! We'll tap our toes to the beat of them all and spotlight our talent in a grand finale performance.
MUSIC THEATER
PREREQUISITE: None

This class combines the aspect of music, drama, and dance culminating in several performances in both musical concerts, and musical plays. Students are required to be at attendance at all performances and extra rehearsals, as the goal of the class is to put on educationally sound and entertaining performances. This class is highly participatory in nature, and students with poor attendance should not take this class. This class will be limited to no more than 35 females and 35 males as gender is important to the balance of this performance ensemble.
GRAPHIC AND WEB DESIGN
PREREQUISITE: Digital Communicaiton Tools or Photography I

If you are interested in using a digital camera, designing a personal web page, and letting your creativity soar, then the new Graphic and Web Design class is for you! This course incorporates the principles of visual design with computer animation, digital photographym and personal/professional web page development. Our goal is to offer an advanced-level class that brings many computer skills and personal creativity together. Let's take technology to the next level!
PHOTOGRAPHY I & II
PREREQUISITE: For Photography II: Photography I

$50 Fee Required - Students must provide a 35 mm SLR camera or a 3+ megapixel digital camera.
This is an introduction to photography that emphasizes basic camera techniques. Also, as part of the course, basic black and white film processing and printing techniques are taught. Photographic history and photographic equipment evolution are included. Students are required to build from scratch a Pinhole camera and to make it work. Included in the course are the elements of composition and aspects of camera operations. The connection between seeing, doing, and producing are a central core of the class. For the student using a digital camera the course will include instructions on Photoshop 7 and its elements. Students may be required to work with little supervision in other areas of the school. There may also be some additional cost for paper and ink.
VIDEO PRODUCTION I & II

Students participating in this class will learn videotaping techniques, scripting, shot organization, audio dubbing, and editing. Students will also be required to participate in the production of the “Eye of the Dog” broadcast. This is a group work oriented class that requires students to manage time, be motivated, creative, and capable of staying on task with the goal of product excellence.
