U.S. Department of Education

The U.S. Department of Education's mission is to:

Strengthen the Federal commitment to assuring access to equal educational opportunity for every individual;

Supplement and complement the efforts of states, the local school systems and other instrumentalities of the states, the private sector, public and private nonprofit educational research institutions, community-based organizations, parents, and students to improve the quality of education;

Encourage the increased involvement of the public, parents, and students in Federal education programs;

Promote improvements in the quality and usefulness of education through Federally supported research, evaluation, and sharing of information;

Improve the coordination of Federal education programs;

Improve the management of Federal education activities; and

Office of the Education Ombudsman (OEO)

The office of the Education Ombudsman provides information and referral services to students, families and communities regarding the public education system, promotes family and community involvement in education, and helps families and students resolve conflict with schools.  Visit the OEO website.

Parent/Teacher Communication

Teachers in the North Mason School District welcome parent input and support in their children’s education and value communication with parents. Each teacher has a phone listing (see below), as well as voice and email accounts in the event they are not available when you call as they may be attending meetings, supervising students, or teaching class. Requests to meet or have a phone conversation outside of the work day can also be arranged with individual teachers.
