We wanted to share some construction photos with you regarding the total closure of State Route 302. Since the Friday, June 9 closure, we wanted to let you know progress is being made. Please keep your fingers crossed for continued dry weather, as crews are working in a very wet area. We need it to be mostly dry in order to complete this repair and reopen the highway. The reopening is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, June 24.
This photo (above) shows how crews have cleared away underbrush and other vegetation away from the work zone, and dug through the roadway surface. To the right, you can see how crews have begun the process of partially realigning the highway away from Puget Sound.
An excavator uses horsepower to muscle through asphalt and reach the soggy surface below the highway. Once the dirt is excavated, we’ll shore up the roadway with an innovative lightweight concrete.
We are mindful of how a total road closure is an added burden. We understand people are busy with business, work, and family schedules. Thank you for your patience as crews work to shore up this problematic section of highway.
